Welcome on the Faculty of Chemical Technology and Biotechnology
Passing the application procedure successfully, you are now the students of a 240 years old establishment of the Hungarian higher education.
This is the starting point of a long way leading to a diploma of BME. During the semesters you have to collect credits. The credit is the index-number of the educational work of the students. One credit corresponds to about 30 workhours. Every subject has a credit values. The student obtains these credits when he/she pass the subject successfully. For the diploma a given number of credits have to be collected (BSc formation: 210 credits, MSc formation: 120 credits), following the curricula of the formation. The curriculum helps to time the study, by showing that in the individual semesters which subjects are proposed to register.
If somebody cannot pass a subject, in the next semester(s) he/she can re-register it, when the subject is spelt again in the electronic administration system (Neptun). But in the BSc system there is a consecutive schedule, a subject may have prerequisite(s). This means that the subject can only be registered if the prerequisite(s) is/are already passed successfully.
The subjects are classified in different groups such as basic natural science subjects, specialization subjects, economical and human science subjects, elective subjects. A thesis work is also integrated to the study program (distributed in 2 semesters in the MSc formation).
An essential subject in both formations is a summer practice (6 weeks for the BSc, while 4 weeks for the MSc students).
The studies will terminate with a final examination.
Students in the BSc program receive a thorough introduction to basic engineering areas before starting their specialisations in the fifth semester.
A BSc degree is a necessary prerequisite for an MSc course enrolment.
Language: 4 English courses are mandatory in the BSc formation, 2 in the MSc formation.
For the students obtained the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship Hungarian Language and Culture subjects are also mandatory.
Following the curriculum is highly recommended. The curriculum is planned with (about) 30 credits in each semester. This way the study time in the BSc formation is 7 semesters, while in the MSc formation it is 4 semesters. If somebody does not reach the 30 credits in the semesters or does not pass a subject thus it has to be repeated, the study time may elongate.
For the scholarship holders a legal regulation describes the collection of at least 36 credits in two semesters. If somebody cannot fulfil these criteria he/she can only continue the studies as tuition-fee paying student.
All the curricula have been carefully prepared to meet the needs and challenges of the actual career opportunities both in the developed and developing both in the countries of the European Union and in the United States.

A BSc degree is a necessary prerequisite for an MSc course enrolment. A three-year PhD program is also available in all majors offered by the Faculty.
