The main goal of the course is to supply information about the principles of the preparation and application of heterogeneous polymer systems. A smaller part of the course deals with impact modified thermoplastics containing elastomers, as well as with other polymer blends, while it discusses more extensively particulate filled and fiber reinforced composites. It offers information about new materials, which are in the focus of attention in recent years, i.e. nanocomposites and polymers reinforced with natural fibers. The course describes their potentials, and explains the difficulties encountered during the development of new materials, as well as factors occasionally hindering their application. Special attention is paid to structure-property correlations and interfacial interactions, which have increased importance in heterogeneous polymer systems.
