Basics in physical chemistry, colloid chemistry and polymer physics.
-
No other class of materials can be made to respond to so many different stimuli like polymer gels. Topics include stimuli responsive polymer gels, which are able to produce a pre-determined response to the alteration of certain environmental stimuli, such as temperature, pH, light (visible or UV), electric or magnetic fields, ionic strength, solvent composition, redox potential or enzymatic conditions, etc. at a desired point and time. Moreover macroporous, tough, shape memory and self-healing polymer gels are within the topics. The course covers the classification, preparations, structure - property correlations and applications (mainly biomedical applications: tissue engineering, drug delivery) of polymer gels. The course based on individual projects: students hold presentations about the selected topics. Preparation of peer review about a manuscript is also included.
