Chemical unit operations (fluid transport, heat transport, component separation)
This Process Engineering course targets ideas and basic techniques of Process Structure Design, also called Chemical Process Synthesis. The most important problems and solution methods of process synthesis are presented. Included are detailed discussion of energy recovery networks and mass exchange networks, distillation sequencing, energetically efficient continuous rectification variants, continuous distillative separation processes applicable to azeotropic and near boiling mixtures. Optionally, depending on progress, feasibility methods applicable in assigning batch distillation of azeotropes, as well as the most important heuristics of scheduling are also discussed.
