Aim of the subject:
This course discusses the principles of genetics. The classical genetics topics presented here include the principles and applications of Mendelian analysis, the chromosomal basis of inheritance, linkage and basic eukaryotic chromosome mapping, extensions of Mendelian analysis (variations of dominance, multiple alleles, lethal alleles, penetrance, expressivity, gene interactions), and finally methods for carrying out an epistasis analysis. The structure and function (replication and expression) of DNA, the control of gene expression, and the molecular basis of gene mutations will be discussed in the molecular genetics section.
